Computer freezes while reading CD-ROM due to device error 7 or 26.
Cause:
Device error number 7 or 26 occurred. CD-ROM drive is using an outdated driver.
Solution:
Contact next-level support or the manufacturer for an updated driver, and reinstall the CD-ROM drive.

Open the 'Device Manager'

Select the 'View devices by type' radio button, and double-click on 'CD-ROM' in the 'View devices by type' list box.

Select the CD-ROM drive driver and click 'Remove'. (The 'Confirm Device Removal' dialog box appears.)

Click 'OK'. (The 'Restart the Computer' dialog box appears)

open the 'Add New Hardware' icon

Select the 'No' radio button and click 'Next'.

Double-click on the appropriate device type in the 'Hardware types' list box.

Select the device manufacturer from the 'Manufacturers' list box, and then select the device model from 'Models' list box.

Click 'Have Disk...' and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Select the appropriate resources (i.e.

I/O addresses
) for the device driver, and click 'Next'.
CAUTION: Please refer to the device's installation manual before assigning resources for the driver. Incorrectly assigning resources to a driver may cause conflicts with other devices.

Click 'Finish'.

Click 'Yes' to restart the computer.
